Mandate for Conflict Support Committee

Current members: Linda Reed, Laura DeBacker, Eliza Perkins, and Laraine Miner

The purpose of our committee is to support healthy, collaborative resolutions to conflicts in our WaCoHo community by accomplishing the following:

  1. We will develop a suggested basic process for reconciling conflicts at WaCoHo.
  2. We will post documents, models and resources on the Wiki that provide ideas and suggested skills for successfully resolving conflict. We also will provide brief presentations in ACM, and present workshops for practicing  conflict resolution skills.
  3. We encourage those involved in a conflict to meet face-to-face with each other to resolve the problem since email is never a way to solve a conflict. We support the current established email policy
  4. We are available individually as a neutral helper to meet one-on-one with anyone involved in a conflict, for the purpose of clarifying their concept of the problem. We encourage the individual involved in the conflict to choose
a helper with whom they feel the most trust. Our role is not one to solve the interpersonal problem, but to support the process. In our role as helper we commit to strict confidentiality.
  5. We encourage all members of the community to develop trust with each other through in-person participation, working, playing, sharing meals with each other etc.
  6. We have means to obtain outside mediation if a conflict is not resolved after sincere efforts to do so have not succeeded, and the conflict is negatively affecting our community.
  7. Lastly, we maintain that conflict is inevitable, and, if embraced, it can become a prime motivator for positive change and growth in ourselves and in our relationships.
