Fire Policy 2022 09 01

Fire Policy ad hoc

1 September 2022, 7:00-

Note Taker: Kay

Topics: policy for safe use of fire

Attendees:  Joe, Jorge, Kay

Consensed Decisions:

Jorge brought a picture of some galvanized steel fire rings.  Open on the bottom.  Could dig it into the ground.

Pros and Cons.  Restrictions on fires potentially take away a draw for community gatherings.

Safety equipment to be present.  Bucket of water already filled, shovel, bucket of sand, fire extinguisher?

Current situation:  Fires are being enjoyed without guidelines to ensure safety.

Mission statement:  To provide a framework to ensure the safety and security of our community residents and property regarding campfires.

Is the current location the best place for a fire pit?

Consideration:  Half of the year there isn't water available nearby.  The yard hydrant is shut off and unit's outside hose bibs have hoses disconnected to make them freeze-proof.

Is notification required?

Restrictions on size of fire, width and height?  A fire ring will act to enforce the width.

Limit on time of year fires are allowed?

The north field has the biggest open area on the property.  Most other places have trees overhead.

Move the ring further away from the spiral?  There should be enough room to move it closer to the north garden without crowding.

Want air circulation at the bottom.  Could put a ring on bricks that have air gaps, then put a ring of bricks above that that are cemented in place to hold the fire ring.

Drop in level of current pit is a safety hazard for kids and seniors.
