lawn reseeding between lynda a and common house 3/2024
Thank you to Robin, Jorge, Emily, Michael, Vinnie, Alex, Eliza, and Vicky who made this lawn work party a success!
The front area of the common house lawn (clearly marked with signs and stakes) will need to be kept clear of foot traffic for at least three weeks, depending on how slowly/quickly the grass grows. (Anywhere not within the area cordoned off with twine and stakes was NOT seeded, meaning the northwest and south west area of the lawn are perfectly fine to walk on).
I apologize for the eye sore of the signs, we wanted to make sure you could see the signage so as not to become a tripping hazard.
We used Sta-Green Performance Max Mixture/Blend Grass Seed as recommended by the SLC Turf Trade as it is Turf Water Conservation Alliance approved as a drought-tolerant mix. White clover was mixed with the grass seed on the side of the lawn near the common path, but not near the playground. We also applied the donated fertilizer to the area.
A side note: Alex ,Vinnie and I checked on the stumps between Cheryl and Alex's unit that were drilled treated with the epsom salt to kill the stump and preventing it from sprouting more elm saplings. There was one stump that had some small growths on the side (which we cut and applied industrial vinegar to), so we'll need to keep an eye on it, but this treatment for elm tree stumps so far seems to be a success.
Idea for work hours: the two stumps under the black tarp between Alex and Cheryl's unit should be checked monthly for new growth. If any is found, cut the growth and apply industrial strength vinegar to the cut portion of the plant immediately after cutting (so the plant doesn't have time to "seal" the cut ).
