Putting Out Stuff for Giveaway, before/after ACM
We want a systematic periodic way of rehoming or sharing items, without the items hanging around and
being clutter. Instead of people sending out emails or leaving them out on a porch, we will try letting
people put things in the dining room the morning of an ACM, then anything left the next day gets
thrifted. This will be reevaluated after four ACMs to see if it is working.
Leaving things out on the path or on the c.h. back porch has the potential to attract thieves.
Things go to someone you know, which can make it easier to let go.
If nobody has wanted an item, then someone willing to go to the work of selling it can claim it instead of
it going to a thrift store.
Items that have been on-loan to a common space and are being removed should be offered to whoever
they originally belonged to, then they can come to a giveaway.
There’s a FaceBook page, Buy Nothing Glendale.
Scott will be taking things to the dump next weekend, if people want to give things to him.
Events in Common Areas
Emilie is interested in doing events/classes such as yoga, women’s circles, sound bath, to which outside
people would be invited to (as well as the community). She might be using the fire pit, spiral, lawn, etc.,
probably not the common house. She usually has a ten- or fifteen-person limit. The classes would be on
a donation basis.
Events using firepit etc. should probably go on the reservation calendar.
Emilie (or anyone doing something similar) may want to consider getting professional liability insurance,
to reduce the risk to the community. Scott says it’s about $120/year. Emilie’s requires signed releases,
which may lower the risk of an individual choosing to sue, but an insurance company could ignore. An
event being by donation lowers our risk, although there isn’t a way to make it zero.
Even if an event’s focus is an outside group, it’s polite to invite the community. Sometimes works better
if at least two households in the community are involved with the organization being hosted.
Dining Club
Beth, Emilie, & Cheryl have been talking about how to revive the Dining Club. Doing a taco bar or pasta
bar would allow people with food restrictions or sensitivities to pick what they can eat.
In the past we’ve usually had a charge to attend a meal, handled different ways – paying the night of the
meal, or buying a punch card, etc. Goes to pay back the cook.
Reports and Announcements
Beth is looking at cohousing software, Gather and others, evaluating it for the community’s usage. She
wants something usable on both a smart phone and a desktop.
April 23 is our Open House, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
We can turn garden water on, but need some people assigned to keep an eye on the forecast and warn
if there will be a freeze so the water can be turned off. To turn off, need to turn off the stop-and-waste
valve and open the hose faucets so the water drains out.
Emilie will be working on finding someone to do safety evaluations for fire and flood.
The logs at the corners of the driveway are old. Do we want replace with new ones? They stop cars
from cutting the corner and creating a rut at the corner. OTOH they get bumped out of position,
sometimes into the drive. Large rocks might work better.
