Conflict Support: Identifying Your Emotions
Handout Unhealthy conflict is You vs. Me. Healthy Conflict: You & Me vs The Problem
Game "Grok", pack of cards with emotions and feelings.
A fill-in-the-blank sentence that can be useful is, "When I see/hear [action], I feel [emotion], because [history/interpretation]. I need [need]. Would you be willing to [action request]?"
Passive tense feelings, expressed as verb+ed tend to be that something someone else has done to you, rather than how you are reacting to your interpretation of your observation. Avoid accusation.
"Need" can come across as a demand. "I prefer". My needs and feelings are my responsibility, but you can help or hinder. Explain what in your history leads you to interpret an action a particular way.
Welcoming, Educational Overview
Members: Laura, Vicky, Lila, Laraine, Lynda, Amy, & Renae
Steps the Management and Welcoming go through when someone says they are selling.
A letter goes to the seller of a unit that outlines the requirements for seller and buyer, rental regulations, etc. A text goes out to people who have expressed interest telling them a unit may become available.
Welcoming's goal when a unit sells is to make sure that the buyer understands that we are cohousing and what that means.
Interacting with the community's FaceBook or InstaGram accounts helps promote the accounts.
Once people arrive, there is a binder. Welcoming currently does three sessions of orientation. The binder recently added Mandate from Conflict Support team and what is the difference between the condo and the cohousing.
Post a Q-Code on porch of open house that lets people sign up for information and to be notified of available units.
Lynda will send the orientation documents to Ben to be put on the wiki.
To contact the welcoming committee, email to wacoho-welcome@googlegroups.com.
Intro to community online resources
There are three main online resources: the landing page, the external-facing website, and the wiki.
The landing page has links to a number of additional online resources. Wiki, pay-or-play reporting, suggestions for meeting topics. Can find it by searching wiki.wasatchommons.com to find the wiki. At the bottom of every community email, there is a link to it.
On the wiki, when you are doing a new page, an icon on the right hand side has templates, for instance for minutes or proposals, to guide you on what should be included in particular types of community documents.
The wiki is organized into "shelves", "books", and "chapters". The shelves are divided into facilities, governance, and relationships.
Anyone can read the wiki. To make changes, log in using the email you use for the community listserv and a password.
The wiki keeps track of changes and who made them.
