Pay’r’Work

At the end of every email that goes through the listserv, there is a link that goes to a page with a lot of
resources.

Icons for
- Form to report pay’r’work hours, link to jobs
- Collection of pay’r’work reports
- Calendar
- Directory
- Email guidelines
- Zoom link for community

Hours that are not reported are the home owner’s responsibility.  If someone in the household doesn’t
report hours, the owner will receive an invoice.  An empty unit is equal to one adult.

Purposes of Pay’r’Work

- Keep the community running
- Make sure things get taken care
- Distribute work
- Save money by doing work internally
- Build community by working together and shared responsibility
- Contributing increases commitment
- Know what needs to be done
- Promotes the well-being of the community
- Two hours is the minimum
- Paying is an honorable alternative
- Periodic reminder to look at one’s contributions
- Spur interaction

A person would need to do a lot more than two hours to care for one’s own house, and most
communities require a much higher number.

Paver Art Installation

This idea may grow into a proposal but isn’t there yet.  April 7 email has more info.

Suggestion to install 26 pavers to be installed between #13 and 15, across from the common house.
These would act as wayfinders to find units.  Each unit would decorate one.  Low-impact project, low-
cost, improve appearance of an entryway, hold down weeds.  Similar to pavers in front of Lila’s.  First
impressions for visitors.

Need to make sure we respect the emergency access drive-through aspect of the path.

Does this require a proposal?  It isn’t really a change in usage (the area isn’t being used for
anything).  It’s easily changed or removed. The nearest neighbors have been consulted.  Change to look
and feel?  Representative of the community, a face to the outside community.   Straw poll:  Who feels
this needs a proposal?  Laraine feels this is kind of a hybrid; everybody is involved because everyone
would get a paver to decorate.

If someone doesn’t want to paint their paver, do we ask someone else to paint it for them?  Plenty of
people with artistic skills in the community.

Maybe just get the numbers done before the open house.

Decided don’t need a proposal and to turn it back over to the ad hoc committee to flesh out.

Committee Reports

Common house committee.  Flat screen TV donated by Diana. Acquired a wall mount.  It will replace the
current TV but on the wall west of it.

Giveaway.  Bring stuff before the ACM to give away.  It gets taken to donation the next day.  This time
there’s a fair amount because people are moving out.

April 23rd. 9:00 a.m.  Saturday open house tour.  #7 and #17 will be showing.  Susan’s not yet.

Safety.  Discussed emergency preparedness.  Suggest every resident prepare a go-with pack.  FEMA
website has information on what should be in one.  Fire marshall(?) was here last week and checked
extinguishers.  May want guidelines for firepit safety.  Would like input from the community.

North Garden. Seedlings should be ready to plant in about a week.  Need to be hardened off once the
current snow goes away.   Watch for an email scheduling a transplanting party.  3:00 seed sowing party.

Management/maintenance.  Talking about pay’r’work and maintenance.  Some priorities are wasp
control, linseed oiling beams and enclosures, cleaning under the decks.

Parents.  Will be starting putting up the playground.  Wood needs to be weatherized.  Talking about
renovating kids room, weeding out toys.

Announcements

Easter Celebration this weekend.  Saturday 2:00 p.m. egg dying in dining room.  Bring already-hard-
boiled eggs.  Sunday 10:00 a.m. Easter egg hunt.  Three eggs are prize eggs.  Cotton candy
machine.  Usually haven’t encouraged candy, stick with traditional thrill of the hunt.  Bring baskets or
egg cartons to gather eggs.

Cohousing Exchange discussion this Saturday 11:00 a.m. on Zoom. Vicky will send link.

Email from Celia.  This Saturday then in two weeks she will have students at her place and then going to
Shad’s.  Checking if it’s okay if they cross our property.

Kathy is putting #17 on the market, $329K.  Realtor Amber.  If anyone would like to earn some money
cleaning up the yard, talk to Kathy.  Screen door needs to be taken down.  Chair needs a
home.  Reinforcing wire by back door.

Emailed 4/17.
