All-Community Meeting

October 10, 2022, 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Attendees: Eliza (fac), Marina, Lynda, Victor, Kay, Linda, Vinnie

Note Taker: Kay               Facilitator:  Eliza

The Conflict Support team has five members.  People who need help with a conflict can approach any or all of them. They aren't there to fix the conflict, be a mediator, or to take sides, but to listen, give people the tools and practice sessions, to act as sounding boards and make suggestions for approaches to reducing the conflict. They will be sponsoring training in skills like nonviolent communication, restorative justice.  One hope is to provide someplace for people to go rather than emailing the listserv and involving the whole community in a dispute between two households.

They have found conflict management policies from three different cohousing communities to serve as models and generate ideas for coming up with one of our own.  Liz McGill, Silver Sage, and one not identified where it came from.

It's important for people to be accountable for how their behavior has affected neighbors or the community.  It's important for people to figure out what they want and what they need.  Anger is the part of the iceberg that's above water, but below the surface there can be guilt, fear, sadness, disappointment.

Future discussion:  how do we react to conflict?

Committee Reports

Common House Furnishings got an offer of credenza that's larger than the one we currently have the tablecloths in.

Welcoming.  Met a week ago for Kerry's first orientation.

Announcements

Victor & Renae would like to reserve the common house on Christmas Eve, if the community doesn't have plans to use it.

Osher has accepted Linda's proposal for a class on "Principles for Creating Collaboration in Conflict".  Probably held at the dojo, probably sometime in November or December.

Laraine's book Mormon Pioneer Dances had a counterfeit version on Amazon.  Her merchandising manager got it taken down.
