In attendance: Emily, Michael, Lynda, Ben, Renae, Thomas, Brian, Cheryl, Coleman, Starla, Laraine, Alex, Kellie
PROPOSAL: Permanent Adoption of Discord for Community Communication
- Emily (facilitator) clarifies the formal consensus process
- Emily reads the full text of the proposal
- Renae asks whether Discord is encrypted
o Emily searches this and the initial search reports that Discord is not end-to-end encrypted for messages, but is for video or voice calling usage
- Brian asks how many community members have been added as “admins”
o Answer is Ben, Emily, Michael, Cheryl, Kellie currently had admin access
- Brian also asks whether we can add and consolidate channels
o Answer is definitely yes, Emily suggested a future ACM on channels; there is also a server feedback channel
- Emily calls for consensus—one stand aside (Laraine)
- Laraine reports that she is still struggling with Discord, but has struggled with technology all her life; Laraine sees our cohousing culture moving away from face-to-face communication generally, and sees this as further exacerbating
- Alex asks if Discord is now the best place to permanently store information like committee minutes
o Answer is there are several redundant locations for these: the best is to use the Wiki
o Kellie reports that the Wiki has at times made inclusion of photos within documents has been difficult, and has in those cases added a Google doc
o Emily reminds that it is good to add a link to the Discord to minutes posted to the Wiki
- Lynda adds that several ACM topics to provide continued and ongoing education on use of Discord; Emily adds that one-on-one help with Discord
Proposal passes; Discord will be permanently adopted for community communication
Presentation by Michael on water infiltration issues and ways to diagnose them
- Michael was also taking minutes, so he was not able to do both things at once
- Slides from this presentation are posted as a PDF to Discord for future reference
